Mazda CX-5 2018: More Equipment for the Mazda SUV

The Mazda CX-5 was completely redesigned last year and was recognized by news sources almost immediately. The Automotive Journalists Association of Canada awarded the CX-5 with the title “Best Small Utility Vehicle.” One of the few compact SUVs that's truly fun to drive, the Mazda CX-5 also stands out in terms of versatility and fuel economy thanks to its SKYACTIV engines.

Plenty of Features in the New Mazda CX-5

Before we start with the engines of the 2018 Mazda CX-5, let's talk about the different versions and equipment that comes with it. Offered at $25,800, the 2018 Mazda CX-5 is one of the most affordable compact SUVs in its class, but that doesn’t mean less equipment. In reality, it's quite the opposite.

The entry-level CX-5 offers a complete list of equipment that includes LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, an automatic braking system in the city to avoid accidents, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a rear view camera, keyless entry, and a 7-inch centre screen with the Mazda Connect infotainment system.

Two SKYACTIV Engines for the 2018 Mazda CX-5

As you can see, there’s plenty of equipment in the 2018 Mazda CX-5. Better yet, Mazda's new compact SUV is also fuel-efficient with its two SKYACTIV engines. The first, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine with 156 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque, is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The 2018 Mazda CX-5 is one of the few SUVs in its class to offer this type of gearbox.

Having said that, most buyers will opt for the SKYACTIV 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a six-speed automatic and happens to be extraordinarily fuel-efficient.

Indeed, it offers an average consumption of 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres in the city, and 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway when paired with all-wheel drive. In FWD models, consumption is even lower, with an average of 9.3 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 7.6 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway.
